This blog is a place for me to collect my thoughts on books in the areas of Biblical Studies, Theology, Church History, & Ethics, from a broadly evangelical perspective. Why? Because I enjoy reading in these areas, and it helps me narrow down book purchases to read what other bloggers have to say about books that I find interesting. This is my little place to try & return the favor.
A Note on Biases/Denominational Distinctives:
While I try to keep official reviews as objective as possible, the purpose of the blog is to give my opinion on the book in question, and inevitably my opinion is shaped by my views on certain things. As such, for those who like to know where the reviewer is coming from, I will lay out some of the common areas of dispute and where I stand (more or less) on them. This is not meant to be a creed or exhaustive list.
I consider myself an evangelical, which to me means that I affirm the Bible to be the infallible rule of faith and practice, wholly inspired by God. I am comfortable with the label “Arminian”, but it’s not something I dwell on or really think is all that important. Sorry to my Calvinist friends, but I think that debate honestly takes up way too much our energy. I love Reformed Biblical Theology, despite not being a Calvinist. I am Charismatic in the sense that I believe that the spiritual gifts (including tongues, prophecy, & the miraculous) are gifts for today, and that the Holy Spirit should play a large role in the life of the believer, in both word & deed.
